FOREST BATHING - KEALIA BIRD SANCTUARY: We will meet at the Keālia Coastal Boardwalk entrance for an introduction to Forest Bathing. Then, we will proceed alongside the bird sanctuary for a series of a guided forest bathing invitations bathing in the vibrant energy of this exquisite natural setting. Upon our return to the bird sanctuary we will enjoy a 10 - 20 minute seated meditation followed by tea and snacks. Participants are encouraged on the return walk to enjoy the self-guided interpretive exhibits on the boardwalk to learn about the many native and visiting birds to these coastal wetlands. From the parking lot, please allow approximately 1.5 hours total for the excursion. Please bring a hat, sunscreen, something warm to wear in case of wind or rain, a water bottle and small cushion or towel for sitting if desired. The walk will be canceled in case of excessive rain or flooding.
HALEAKALA MINDFULNESS HIKE
HALEAKALA GUIDED MINDFULNESS HIKE: We will meet at the Halemau’u trailhead for an introduction to mindfulness. Then we will proceed walking 1 mile down, in mindfulness practice, to the overlook at the edge of the crater with spectacular views. There, we will remain in a guided mindfulness practice seated at the edge of the crater for 20-30 minutes followed by a brief discussion and Q&A. The hike back up is medium-strenuous, all uphill, making a 400′ elevation change in 1 mile. From the parking lot, please allow 1.5 – 2 hours for the tour. Participants must be reasonably fit. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes, hat, sunscreen, warm layered clothes for changing weather, and bring a water bottle. Rain gear is recommended, and we will be sitting directly on the Earth so please bring a small cushion if you prefer. Hikes will be canceled in case of inclement weather.
